Holiday weather in Tenerife
There are a variety of amazing holiday destinations out there to choose from, particularly if you are looking to soak up a touch of sun. One of the most popular choices out there is Tenerife. But what makes Tenerife such a great place to go for a holiday?
The weather in Tenerife
Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands that are found far south of the mainland of Spain, close to the west coast of Africa. This location, rather unsurprisingly, means that Tenerife sees some truly amazing weather throughout the year. In fact, the islands are known as “The Islands of Eternal Spring” which showcases the beautiful and pleasant weather that it sees all year round.
In general, the weather in Tenerife has a pleasant level of heat, a low level of rain and plenty of hours of sunshine throughout the day. However, it is important to remember that this can vary depending on where you go on the Island. As well as when you decide to travel.
When to travel to Tenerife
As the nickname suggests, one of the best things about Tenerife is that it really doesn’t matter what time of year you go, you are likely to find some rather impressive weather that you are going to enjoy.
The time of year that you head to Tenerife will really depend on the type of temperature that you prefer.
The majority of the tourists resorts in Tenerife are to be found in the south of Tenerife, and there is good reason for this, the Summers are pleasant in this area and the average temperature during these months are around the mid-twenties. However, highs of 28°C have often been seen around July, August and September.
The temperatures fall down during the evening, however, it is still warm and this is why many hotels and villas will come with air-conditioning to keep you comfortable whilst you sleep.
If you are thinking about travelling to Southern Tenerife in the Winter months, then you will be pleased to know that it can still be warm, with average temperatures around 20°C. The one thing to be aware of if you are planning to travel to Tenerife during the Winter months, then you may need to consider that this is the rainy season. Which can hamper your Winter sunbathing efforts.
The Spring Weather is also mild, but the cool winds can have an impact on the average temperature and bring it down lower.
For those who like the idea of a quieter holiday resort, then the Northern coast of Tenerife is the place to go. However, it is important to remember that if you do decide on this area, that you will often find that the temperatures are lower and there is a higher chance of rain.
This is particularly true during the Winter months, however, for those holiday makers who are thinking about taking a walking or golfing holiday, then these lower temperatures might be much more welcome.
There are so many amazing reasons to visit Tenerife, however one of the best things about it has to be the weather. Ideal for those who love sun seeking, as well as those that want to keep things cooler, Tenerife is the destination of choice for couples, families and everyone inbetween.
Things to do and see in Tenerife
So, want to know more about the things to see and do in Tenerife? We have put together some of our favourites, that we think should be on your must see list. For families and those that like to let their hair down and have fun, there is Siam Park, a Thai themed water park that is in Costa Adeje. Not only does it boast one of the biggest collections of Thai Buildings outside of Thailand, but there is also an abundance of water slides and rides for all the family to enjoy.
Of course, one of the best things to do in Tenerife is to spend a day (or two) at the beach. There is 400km of coastline throughout Tenerife, which means that you are sure to find the ideal spot for you. We particularly like El Medano Beach for the watersports and the Playa El Puertito for is secluded nature.
If you are a fan of wildlife, in particular those creatures that live in the sea, then it makes sense to take one of the whale and dolphin watching tours that leave off of the coast of Southern Tenerife. On one of these tours you are likely to see a whole range of animals, including dolphins, killer whales and even sharks and turtles, all as up close and personal as you can get.
Another day spent with creatures comes in the form of the Loro Parque Zoo, which initially was dedicated solely to parrots, but soon decided to expand and bring in a variety of other animals too.
For those that prefer to take in some architectural sights rather than creatures, San Cristobal de la Laguna is a great destination. Pretty as a picture, this traditional styled town has all the charm and character that you would expect of Tenerife and makes for the ideal place to discover and walk around.
When you want to cool off and spend some time relaxing, then we definitely recommend heading to the natural salt water pools of Bajamar. Suitable for all the family, they are the ideal location after a long walk or perhaps just a busy day exploring everything that Tenerife has to offer.
As you can see, there are so many reasons why you would want to choose Tenerife as your next holiday destination. Whether it is the fine weather, the things to do or the amazing sights to see, we think that once you visit Tenerife, you will fall in love with everything that it has to offer.
